Fine Artist
BIOGRAPHY
Mason Weiss is an artist from Los Angeles who stitches together autobiographical sculptures out of textiles and beads combining the figure, self-portraiture, and wearables. Weiss’s practice acts as an ongoing diary where each work is an entry exploring his relationship to being queer as a transmasculine person.
Weiss graduated from California College of the Arts with high distinction earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and minor in Writing in 2019. During his studies, he was a recipient of the Diversity Scholarship, Craft Forward Scholarship, and All College Honors. While an artist in residence at GlogauAIR, Berlin, Germany, he showed works from his latest series, Too Faced. His work has been published in Dab Art’s juried quarterly arts publication and online exhibition, “STORIES”, which focused on experiences of LGBTQ+ people. Anna Dempsey selected his video performance for a group exhibition, “SHAME”, at Hera Gallery, Wakefield, RI. Weiss has participated in several group exhibitions and had a solo exhibition, “Bare All”, at Oliver Art Center, Oakland, CA.
